James Willey, MS

nonbinary Asian therapist

Hi, Iā€™m James (they/them)!

I am a psychology associate (#A0766) registered in Maryland under the supervision of Dr. David Goode-Cross Ph.D (#05300). I currently see clients from Sundays through Thursdays and can see clients with Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, or are interested in private pay. I am currently only seeing clients through telehealth and am not seeing clients in-person at this time. I also only provide individual therapy.

Clients often say they enjoy and appreciate therapy with me due to my patience in the process, my willingness to challenge and be direct, and my desire to try my best to understand my clients and their experience. Feeling being understood should be the minimum when working with a therapist and it's upsetting when you feel that disconnect with other therapists.

I am likely the best fit for clients wanting to navigate being neurodivergent, including having Autism, ADHD, OCD, etc., navigating racial, queer, gender, or religious identity exploration, exploring internalized prejudice, trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, and navigating chronic pain and illness.

I identify as biracial, half-Asian, half-white, disabled, pansexual, non-binary, and an atheist. I more specifically, have OCD and am living with Long COVID. I share this due to many clients and I sharing identities and it sometimes being helpful when your therapist has a similar lived experience! I also see clients who are non-monogamous, sex workers, and members of the kink community.
