Jamaal Hailey, PhD

Hi there, my name is Dr. Jamaal Hailey (they/he). I am a registered psychology associate in Maryland. I see clients Tuesday through Saturday and can see clients with Blue Cross Blue Shield and Cigna, as well as private pay. I currently have a waitlist for telehealth sessions as I do not see clients in person at this time.

My interests and specializations:

My work includes individual, group, couples, and family therapy. I have experience providing culturally-affirming comprehensive sexual health education and expertise working with individuals living with HIV.

Who is a good fit for therapy with me?

I work best with adults who are seeking support related to navigating life transitions (i.e., aging parents, empty nest, parental loss) and other relational changes in their lives. Many of my clients experience struggles with changes in their romantic relationships, sexual identities, personal and professional identities; health, healthcare status, and activities of daily living; separation, and divorce. My clients also seek support around coping with the effects of social inequities and historical oppressions such as internalized racism/colorism/homophobia/transphobia, as well as interpersonal traumas. Men seeking to develop healthier relationships with themselves/others and are open to change also do well with me.

What's therapy like with me?

My therapeutic style is process-oriented and focuses on how you make meaning out of your experiences. Sessions with me include a mix of unstructured and structured processing of emotions, psychoeducation, mindfulness, humor, and problem-solving. I am an avid consumer of pop culture and often use pop-cultural references to illuminate the point.

I firmly believe you have all the tools you need to achieve your desired life. Our work is to discover what those gifts are together. With me, you get out of therapy what you put in.

Offerings:

I facilitate a virtual, ethically non-monogamous group for Black men and other men of color twice per month.
